Fr. Walter Ciszek
Father Walter Ciszek, a servant of God, was born in Pennysylvania (United States), the son of Polish immigrants. He entered the company of Jesus when he was ordained Priest, according to the Byzantine rite, in 1937. Moved by the desire to serve the Catholics on the other side of the iron curtain, he decided to go to Russia in 1940. He was arrested immediately after his arrival and spent twenty years in a Soviet concentration camp. It was not until 1963 that he returned to the United States.
Being later informed about the events of Garabandal, he quickly learned to discern the authenticity of the supernatural events of Garabandal. Father Walter was a personal friend of Conchita, which allowed him to further increase his conviction about the truthfulness of these events.
Father Walter's process of beatification came in the late 1980s.
